La StradaÂ
Someone, told me to see “La strada”.
I know,I know,it’s ridiculous,to admit,that I still hadn’t seen it,but,well,I finally did.
Did it hurt?! And how?!!! I can not explain. Leaving a lingering pain that catches you in your throat and stays with you as a sore spot forever.
Besides being a piece of cinematic magic,by none other than Federico Fellini,it’s probably,a story so many can identify with.
It’s the story Gelsomina,a woman, who accepts a life she did not and would not chose, and yet struggles to make it her own.Who puts this man,who doesn’t even register she exists, above herself. Who gives it everything she has and more. She Molds herself to please this man,in the hope, that some day,one day,he will love her.
It’s the story Zampano’ a man,who doesn’t know what he has, until he has lost her. Realising, when his only hope,of ever, ever, being truly loved is lost to him forever.
And….
It’s the story of “the Fool”who sees her not just as an ordinary being, and realises, that they can, probably,be the answer to eachothers search for love and happiness, but sacrifices and let’s it go,because he is just too “nice” a man. Or because he is just “the Fool”.
It’s the story of love and loss.
It’s a story of pain and longing.
It’s the story of three wasted lives.
Probably all men and women, can see a bit of themselves,in these extremely beautiful, but, pathetic characters.
But how many would accept it,chose to recognise it,and correct it,before theyhave loved and lost too?
In that sense, aren’t we all “The fool”!?
